An officer from the Scarsdale Police Department conducting a DWI, seat belt and vehicle safety checkpoint on the Heathcote Bypass at Secor Road stopped Mamaroneck Avenue resident Carlos Alvarez shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. When speaking with him at the checkpoint, the officer said that Alvarez had alcohol on his breath, and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. There were also several empty beer cans in his trunk.
Alvarez proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, often mistaking officers’ instructions to follow the procedures of the test. An alco-sensor breathalyzer test determined that Alvarez had a blood alcohol content of .17 percent and he was arrested at the scene.
At Scarsdale Police Headquarters, Alvarez’s blood alcohol content was found to be .16 percent, and he was arrested on charges that include aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a felony, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 percent and driving while intoxicated.
Following his processing for the DWI arrest, Alvarez was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Scarsdale Village Court on Wednesday, Oct. 3 to answer the charges.
